I have no news links for this yet so please bear with me.
It's coming out that over the weekend alot of counterfeit money has been circulating around Perth, just last night there were police standing by specific ATMs in Northbridge (nightlife center) and issuing some sort of receipt to patrons withdrawing money. The TV news carried a small story on it tonight but made it sound as though the source was localized - which it is NOT. Someone I know who went to the casino had their money rejected which they had just withdrawn when trying to buy chips also...
But it gets worse...
I had some cash put away in a drawer, I checked it and half of it is fake... the small business I work for (far from perth city), today a third of their entire takings was fake... some of the bills I'm looking at right here look as though they are many years old, and yet are fake... so this is not some small time counterfeiting operation with crisp new notes - this must have been going on unnoticed for ages. The $50 notes look EXACTLY THE SAME as normal notes, even smell the same, unyet are missing the name of the person featured on the note underneath their picture. I took pics of a real and fake note, spot the difference:
Now, only now is this story getting out here, after these notes have circulated around much of the metropolitan area (and beyond?). Numerous other people I know have found fake notes in their wallets. In every other respect these notes look, smell and feel the same as the real deal, now why would someone make such a critical yet obvious mistake if everything else is perfect. Needless to say this has the potential to throw a spanner in the economic works of Perth. Was it done purposefully? What kind of repercussions will come from this? [to be edited]
[edit]the presence of a name printed under the character on the note alone is not indicative of a fake note.
| Quote: | | Printed names were added to the design of Australia's currency notes to make it easier for the public to identify the famous Australians featured on notes. In 2002, printed names were added to $10 and $20 notes. In 2003 printed names were added to $50 notes, and they will be added to $100 notes when they are next reprinted. |

OMG!!! They said on the news what to look out for, but treated it as though it was just something small... NOW EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT TO LOOK FOR, and now banks and businesses will no longer accept them - but so many people have them!!! ATMs are dishing them out!
Who the fuck has been slipping these notes into our banking system?
There goes consumer sentiment! |

north perth? |
Nope. The scope of this operation far exceeds his capabilities. Just the small business I work at near Fremantle, a third of their takings for Sunday was fake, and since today numerous staff have contacted the business saying that what was paid to them last week was also fake. People I know and people I know through other people all are saying the same thing today... and you able, in Geelong this is something else entirely than some backyard printing facility.... and some of the fake ones I have here look many years old... |

ok... i went to the bullies in blue like i said i would in the p.m....
i produced the fake and the real notes...
i explained the differences and was asked how i came across the info...
i said i moderate on a 911 truth forum and one poster just posted the info...
he said he didn't understand the language i was speaking and i said it was English...
after four or five attempts at rephrasing the information he seemed to accept "i police a internet site" as English......
anyway back to the story....
he proceeded to examen the notes and remarked that it was a very good fake....
i told him of the above police statement i posted and passed on the information you gave on them coming out directly from atm's and that its a breaking story in w.a and he gave me three choices...
1.... give him the note to send to the fed's and never see it again....
2.... ring the fed's in the morning myself
3.... spend it before the story breaks....
he then remarked again how good the fake was and said if he was me he would spend it tomorrow and forget about it.
all hail the mighty boys in blue. _________________ what if i say i will never surrender? |

The thing is, what are the odds of these notes just showing up on all these completely unrelated people I know... one over the other side of the continent! ...the same notes with the same counterfeit errors....
what are the odds? this must be far more widespread than ever. I know it sounds overly cynical, but this truther I know from the UK just said to me over MSN - "is that going to be Australia's way of moving into decline, then?" |

| This predatory capitalist monopoly game we are in gets stranger every day! The rules of this old game need to be thrown out the window and a new much improved version bought in. |

Am I the only one who finds this completely ridiculous? A Cop encouraging you to break the law in what will no doubt become a Federal Investigation?
This donut eating moron is just circulating the problem which may get the next holder of that note in trouble. Fire his fat ass. |

I happened to have two 50s in my wallet - one of each.
A widespread counterfeiting operation?
Or is it just an older version of the $50 note??
I can remember squinting at a note years ago, trying to figure out what the signature said, because I didn't recognise the person - feeling a little bit embarassed that I didn't recognise the people portrayed on the national currency.
Did they start printing their names at some point so people like me could figure out who the people on the notes are? |
